Evian Les Bains (France), 16 June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday mentioned the principle of ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaay’ (well-being and happiness for all). He appealed for international partnership based on trust and inclusive global development amidst increasing geopolitical uncertainties and decreasing global solidarity.

India has always seen the world as one family

Addressing an outreach session on ‘Building New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity’ during the 52nd G7 Summit in the French city of Evian, PM Modi said, “India has always seen the world as one family and its global engagements have been guided by a people-centric approach. India has always seen the world as one family. All our efforts have been guided by the principle of ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaay’ – well-being and happiness for all.”

development is most effective whenwhen it is to people’s expectations

Emphasizing India’s development philosophy, the Prime Minister said that growth is most effective when it is aligned with the expectations of the people, and this principle is the basis of India’s international partnerships. He said, ‘India’s experience shows that development is most effective when it is linked to the expectations of the people. This principle is also the foundation of our international partnership.

Mentioned several initiatives of India including International Solar Alliance

PM Modi highlighted several of India’s initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFE, and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, which exemplify the country’s commitment to growing the world together, and highlight India’s role as a first responder during humanitarian crises. He said, ‘In times of crisis, India has considered it its responsibility to help all countries as the first responder. During the COVID-19 pandemic, India supplied medicines and vaccines to more than 150 countries.

India is always ready to help the world during natural disasters

Referring to India’s help during natural disasters across the world, the Prime Minister said, ‘Be it the cyclone in Sri Lanka, the earthquake in Afghanistan, the floods in Mozambique, or the hurricanes in Cuba and Jamaica, India has always worked on the principle of ‘Humanity First’. Our development partnerships reflect this spirit. Our efforts have been focused on capacity building and skill development in partner countries.

Emphasizing the importance of strengthening countries through cooperation, PM Modi said, ‘The real test of partnership is not what we build for others, but what we enable others to build for themselves.’

Also drew attention to the increasing lack of trust in international relations

PM Modi also drew attention to the increasing lack of trust in international relations despite interdependence amid globalization. He said, ‘Today’s world is more interconnected and interdependent than ever before. The energy security, food security, health security, cyber security and economic prosperity of any country are no longer decided only within its borders. Mobility, data, capital and technology connect us all.”

He further said, ‘In times like these, the importance of partnerships automatically increases. However, partnerships can only succeed if they are built on trust. Today, the most important strategic asset is not minerals, technology or markets, but mutual trust. What he said was that technology and supply chains will work for the betterment of the world instead of becoming a means of coercion.

Prime Minister Modi said, ‘Be assured that technology and supply chain will not be used as a weapon, but for the betterment of the world. Rest assured that growth opportunities will not be limited to a few countries. Have confidence that global institutions will be able to meet the expectations of all countries.

Today the world is not of resourcesrather suffering from lack of trust

Referring to history and the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi said that today the world is not facing a shortage of resources but of trust. However, the trust built over decades with the contributions of many generations is now weakening, he said. ‘The COVID-19 pandemic has held a mirror up to us, showing how hollow claims of trust and solidarity often were.’

PM Modi further said, ‘Today, the world is not struggling with lack of resources, it is struggling with lack of trust. And the future of our partnership depends on building this trust. Referring to former US President Ronald Reagan, PM Modi said, “‘Trust but verify.’ These words are useful even today. It is our responsibility for the coming generations to create a trustworthy rule-based system as per the needs of the new age.”
