Karnataka maps water, power for AI data centers

The Karnataka government is mapping the state's water and energy resources to accommodate the expansion of AI data centers while safeguarding long-term sustainability goals.


Dr. N. Manjula, Secretary of the Department of Electronics, IT, Biotechnology, Science and Technology, disclosed details of the ongoing initiative last week.


The state government is also planning to create a ₹1,000 crore fund to support deserving start-ups.

Dr. Manjula said the state government plans to partner with various banks and investors to multiply this initial funding by four or five times.


She also revealed that a draft of the revamped data center policy will be released soon for public feedback.


The updated policy is likely to offer incentives for water-efficient and energy-efficient operations in AI and data centers.




Update on Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township project
Project details




Dr. Manjula also spoke about the Greater Bangalore Integrated Township project in southern Bengaluru. The township will have world-class, plug-and-play infrastructure for AI and emerging technologies.


She also noted the formation of a Responsible AI Committee, led by Kris Gopalakrishnan, to ensure ethical and transparent use of AI. She said industry leaders are actively participating in this initiative.
