Kalpvas has special significance in Magh Mela. Devotees observe Kalpavas to get freedom from all kinds of sins and to repent of any mistake. It is believed that along with Kalpavas, it is also necessary to donate bed (Sejhiya Daan). Now in the month of Magh on the banks of Sangam, devotees are donating beds after Kalpavas, in which the biggest item used for every need of the house is donated. This donation of Kalpavas has been in practice for thousands of years. This donation is made so that the person becomes free from the bondage of birth and death and gets happiness in the next world. Let us know what is called donation of bed after Kalpavas, donation of repentance…
On Kalpvas and bed donation, Dandi Swami Maheshashram Maharaj told that devotees come to Magh Mela to do Kalpvas and the devotee who does Kalpvas for 12 years should donate bed after completion of 12 years. Shayya Daan has been called a donation of repentance in the scriptures, the purpose of which is to destroy sins and forgive past mistakes. If Kalpavas of 12 years is completed then one gets freedom from the cycles of birth and death and the person attains salvation.
Pilgrimage priest Prayagraj Vinay Mishra said that Kalpavas is considered complete only when the bed is donated. This is the way to get freedom from sins and every year devotees come to Prayagraj and donate in Magh Mela. Not every Brahmin has the right to take this donation. Only the priest of the clan can take it, because this donation is also a donation for sins. In bed donation, those things are given which common people use in their daily life. Earlier people used to do Kalpavas for 3, 5 and 12 years, but now considering health, they do it for only one year.
Let us tell you that donating a bed during Kalpvas is a very important donation, which can be done starting from the 11th day of Paush month till the 12th day of Magh month. In Kalpvas, devotees worship and meditate on the deities on the banks of Sangam and then the process of Kalpvas is completed by seeing donations. In the scriptures, the minimum duration of Kalpavas is one day, three days, three months, six months, 2 years, 3 years and 12 years.
Bed donation is done in two ways. When a person dies, only the Mahapatra accepts the donation made during the Shraddha ritual. Pilgrimage priests do not accept this donation. Those who donate a bed after completing the period of Kalpavas, it is accepted by the priests of the pilgrimage.
